Wind mitigation and roof-condition reports
How insurance inspection requests differ, what information to gather and how to arrange the appropriate report.

Field note
Begin with the insurer’s request
Ask for the report type, accepted form and inspection qualifications the insurer requires. A wind-mitigation inspection records specified wind-resistance features. A roof-condition report answers a different request about the roof. Confirm the purpose before arranging a visit.
These are inspection and insurance-documentation questions. A design appointment for alterations or a roof replacement has a separate scope.
Gather the available information
Share earlier inspection reports, roof permit records, product information and any relevant photographs. Arrange access to the areas the inspector needs and discuss limitations in advance.
The inspector documents findings within the accepted inspection scope. Ask how missing evidence, inaccessible features or changes since an earlier report will be addressed.
Choose the appropriate report provider
Confirm the provider’s suitability for the requested report and the insurer’s acceptance requirements. Agree the inspection, supporting evidence and document to be issued before proceeding.
Florida’s Office of Insurance Regulation publishes wind-mitigation resources and forms. FloridaPE is a separate place to explore engineering services and discuss whether a provider can help with the requested work.
